Absolutely not! There are no residency or citizenship requirements, or a specified time period that must pass between when a couple arrives in Alberta and when the formal marriage licence is issued. You will need your witnesses physically present, however,
  • What legal requirements and other items are needed before getting married?
In order to "tie the knot", all you require is a valid marriage license purchased at least a day prior to the wedding. Make sure you have witnesses present! Get A Marriage License - External Link to the Government of Alberta's Website
  • How long before my wedding date can I pick up my marriage licence?
In Alberta, your marriage licence has a 3 month “shelf life.” As long as you’re within that 3 month time period, feel free to pick up your marriage licence.
